Installing the Privacy Profile on macOS 10.14+

If students in your district use macOS 10.14 or later, you need to install the Dyknow privacy profile. Apple's policy requires that privacy profiles for Macs in MDM environments be configured through your MDM.

Until you push out the privacy profile, teachers will only see Safari or Chrome in the Activity Tracker during monitoring sessions and in Class/Student History.

What the Privacy Profile Does

The privacy profile configures Dyknow to work correctly with the accessibility, automation, and screen recording settings on macOS. Once installed, it automatically enables accessibility and automation, even if the checkboxes in the Settings app show Dyknow as unchecked. Screen Recording is the only setting students must enable themselves.

For more details, see the Privacy Profile section of our Install Mac Cloud Connector article.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dyknow privacy profile is installed, but checkboxes are missing in the Security & Privacy section. Did it work?

Yes. The Security & Privacy section only displays options you've manually selected. Installing a privacy profile overrides these settings, but macOS doesn't clearly indicate this in the interface. If Dyknow appears in the Profiles area, the installation was successful.

When I install the profile, I get this error: "Profile Installation Failed. The profile must be a system profile. User profiles are not supported."

This profile can't be installed manually on a machine. It can only be deployed through an Apple-approved MDM. See the Privacy Profile section of our Install Mac Cloud Connector article for instructions.
