Understanding Device Location Tracking in Aware
Flagged Activity logs in Aware display the location of the device at the time of the flagged activity. This feature is designed to help you reach out to students in distress more quickly. However, there are instances when certain logs may not show the device's location.
This could be due to the following reasons:
- Geolocation tracking is disabled in your Aware Account Settings. Please visit your Account Settings page to ensure that device tracking is enabled. Once enabled, Securly will begin tracking device locations within a few minutes.
- The concerned student or user may not have accepted the geolocation tracking request. If you are a DNS user, ensure that all students accept the geolocation tracking request.
- If you are a DNS user, please note that certain social media activities, such as those on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, cannot be tracked for device locations at this time. However, all other types of flagged activity will display the device location.
Note that users of the Chrome Extension (v02.97.00 and above) do not need to have their students or users accept geolocation tracking requests, as Securly automatically tracks the device location.
