Understanding Barcode Scanning in Flex
Barcode scanning is an attendance feature that allows for quick ID scanning to record student attendance efficiently.
Teachers, staff, and administrators can utilize this feature by navigating to the Student Attendance screen. An icon for barcode scanning appears to the right of the QR Code icon, but it will only be visible on the day of the activity.
Upon clicking the barcode scanning icon, users are presented with an Activity Barcode pop-up.
Teachers, staff, or administrators will then scan the attendance for students, marking them as “Present.” The barcode scanned must contain the SIS ID Number that is configured in Flex for each student at the school. Attendance must be adjusted for any students who were not scanned, indicating them as Absent or Late, followed by clicking “Submit” with the blue check mark.
-
There is no need to close the window until all students have been scanned.
-
If there are multiple activities, the scanning screen does not need to be reopened; students will be scanned into the appropriate activity.
-
This feature is also compatible with Shared Attendance activities.
-
If a student attempts to scan but is not registered for the activity, an error message will be displayed:
-
Attendance can be recorded for both current and past days, functioning similarly to traditional attendance methods. When using barcode scanning for a past date’s activity, the status should be updated to “Present.”
-
If a student does not have an ID to scan, their SIS number can be entered manually in the designated field.
Schools are responsible for purchasing or providing the necessary scanning devices that connect to the devices used by adults taking attendance in Flex.
